South
Claragh & Bird Cottage offer guests the experience of
heartland New Zealand, off the beaten track, but easily
accessible. Our
tree-studded small farm is situated in the countryside close to
Pureora Forest Park, Northwest of Taupo, on State Highway 32,
which offers direct routes to Auckland, Wellington, Taupo, Rotorua
& Waitomo, but without the volume of traffic on State Highway
1.
We
pride ourselves on offering privacy, comfort, relaxation,
delicious meals in tranquil surroundings. |

Accommodation options
Guest accommodation in our charming
centrally-heated farmhouse consists of two ensuite rooms, one with
a shower, the other is a deluxe room which has a cast iron claw
foot bath which can accommodate two people. Both rooms have their
own private entrance and their own private decking area
overlooking our luscious gardens which cover three acres
surrounding the farmhouse. Coffee and tea making facilities are in
both rooms as are tv/dvd players, which have a selection of titles
free of charge.
A special continental
breakfast with home made bread, cereals, organic blueberries,
raspberries and yoghurt is prepared in our country kitchen
for you to enjoy either in our dining room or outside on the patio
beneath our glorious wisteria. Further light meals and snacks can
be provided 'by prior arrangement'. A bbq is available for guests
use on the patio.
Bird
Cottage is on the other side of the lawn tennis court &
through a small stand of tree ferns & redwoods, with views
over pretty countryside. The cottage has French doors onto the verandah from both the bedroom & living room & is
completely self-contained & cosy, perfect for two, but will
sleep 4 or 5. Linen
and firewood are provided. No
meals included in tariff.

While South Claragh is well situated as a base for exploring
central North Island, it is also a peaceful haven.
Onsite Activities:
Strolling through our beautiful grounds, we have 10 acres
including 3 acres of garden. Enjoy our animals, our 2 donkeys
Holly and Jacob, our Highland Cattle Dolly, Bonnie and Connor and
not forgetting our farm cat Seamus. We have 4 lambs and 4 calves,
also our latest additions Dougall and Bear our cuddly Maltese
cross puppies (who love everyone).

Local Area
Attractions: We are centrally located for many varied
activities. We have possibly the best trout fishing in the world,
also if you are into hunting you will find no shortage of hunting
trips which can be arranged.
There is also various water sports around Lake Taupo - yachting,
skiing, swimming and canoeing. Also the local area is covered with
forests and many good walks are available. One noteable forest is
only 10 minutes from us, which is in the Pureora - famous for its
walks and views at the summit.
