Description:
Ross
Cottage is a registered historic building (NZ
Historic Places Trust Reg. No. 5121).
It
dates from the 1870's and is one of the few
remaining buildings associated with the saw
milling industry
in the Canterbury foothills of the
Southern Alps from that era.
The
present owners have restored it to create a
hidden gem and a peaceful retreat, ideal for
honeymooners or those wanting to get away from
it all. They are also establishing extensive
areas of native plants in order to bring back
the bush and birds once prevalent in the area.
The
Cottage looks out over deer, sheep and cattle
farmland to
the ancient
volcanic mountain Mt Somers. Within 3km of the Sharplin Falls Scenic Reserve,
it is an ideal place to stay when you set out to
explore the Lost
World of Erewhon or walk the
Mt Somers Track.
